already been approved by the Lok Sabha and is pending in Rajya Sabha where the
NDA Government does not have a majority. The main opposition party Congress is
opposing the Bill. According to finance ministry the GST Bill will simplify the
tax regime and contribute significantly for the growth of country's economy. A
single rate of GST will replace central excise, state VAT, entertainment tax,
entry tax, luxury tax and purchase tax on goods and services to ensure seamless
transfer of goods and services.
