The 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso began his weeklong visit to Arunachal Pradesh last evening and was given a warm welcome by the monks and thousand of cheering supporters at 400 year and country's largest monastery at Bomdila in West Kameng District.
The Tibetan Spiritual leader was scheduled to reach Tawang in the morning but due to inclement weather in the region his chopper could not take off from Guwahati and the visit was rescheduled. He will leave for Tawang on Friday.
The Dalai Lama will give sermon at Buddha Park in Bomdilla today and shall leave for Dirang in the afternoon.The
Dalai Lama's visit to the eastern most state of India has been objected by China. It warned of strain on bilateral relations due to Dalai Lama's visit. Replying to China India said yesterday that no artificial controversy should be created around religious leader's visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, the Government has clearly stated on several occasions that Dalai Lama is a revered religious leader, who is deeply respected as such by the Indian people. It said, no additional colour should be ascribed to his religious and spiritual activities and visits to various states of India.
