Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently holding a Virtual Summit with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
 
In his opening remarks, Mr Modi said, Vietnam is an important pillar of India's Act East Policy and vital partner of  Indo-Pacific Vision. He said, the relations between India and Vietnam are growing rapidly and spreading to new areas.

The Prime Minister said, next year both countries will be members of the UN Security Council and the cooperation in the global context will increase. He said, both nations will implement a Joint Vision Document 2021-23 which is



a plan of action for bilateral engagement.
 
In 2020, both countries continued high-level exchanges. Vice-President of Vietnam Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh came to India in February this year on an official visit. Both Prime Ministers had a telephone conversation on 13th April this year to discuss the situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The 17th edition of the Joint Commission Meeting virtually co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers was held on 25th August 2020. The Defence Minister held an online meeting with his counterpart on the 27th of last month.
