Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman came in for praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their speeches in the Lok Sabha on Saturday.
While Modi lauded Shah for his "wonderful" and "extensive" speech in highlighting the government's efforts for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, the PM said Sitharaman's "comprehensive" reply in the Lok Sabha to the debate on the Union Budget spoke about how it benefits every section of society as well as giving an impetus to the 'Aatmanibhar Bharat' movement.
"A wonderful speech by Home Minister Shri @AmitShah in the Lok Sabha. Extensive in detail and rich in content, it highlights our efforts for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh," PM Modi tweeted.
Replying to a discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, which was passed by the lok Sabha, Shah assured that the Centre would grant full statehood to J&K at an appropriate time. He further said that Jammu and Kashmir had been a top priority for the Modi government since it took power in 2014.
"Now people chosen by the
masses will rule Jammu and Kashmir, not those born to 'kings and queens'," Shah said, attacking dynastic parties in the region. The Home Minister also gave an assurance to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that "no one will lose their land".
Sitharaman, replying to the general discussion on Budget in Lok Sabha, said the government, undeterred by the Covid-19 pandemic, was pursuing reforms for achieving long-term growth in a bid to make India one of the top economies of the world.
"The reforms undertaken will lay the path for India to become one of those fastest-growing economies in the world. The Budget has set the pace for India to become Aatmanirbhar or self-reliant," Sitharaman said.
Praising Sitharaman's speech, PM Modi said, "It gives a comprehensive view on aspects relating to the Budget. She talks about how the Budget benefits every section of society as well as gives an impetus to the Aatmanibhar Bharat movement."
Lok Sabha was adjourned on Saturday, ending the first phase of the Budget session. The House will reconvene on March 8 after recess.
