Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Rajkot in Gujarat through video conferencing. For the project, 201 acres of land has been allotted. It will be built at an estimated cost of one thousand one hundred 95 crore rupees and is expected to be completed by mid of 2022. The state-of-the-art 750-bed hospital will also have a 30-bed AAYUSH block. It will have 125 MBBS and 60 nursing seats.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said, the facility will help improve health care infrastructure in Gujarat. He said, in the last six years, the work has been started on ten new AIIMS, out of which, some are already functional. He added that apart from AIIMS, 20 Super Speciality Hospitals are also being built in the
country.
Talking about Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Mr. Modi said, this scheme has freed the poor people of India from the struggles of good treatment due to lack of money. He said, over 30 thousand crore of poor people's money has been saved due to the scheme.
He said, the government is working on mission mode to improve medical education in India and after the formation of National Medical Commission, the quality and quantity of health education will improve. He added that in the last six years, 31 thousand new seats have been added in MBBS and 24,000 new seats have been added in post-graduate courses.
The Prime Minister said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is decreasing now. Mr. Modi added that the preparation is on for the vaccination in the country.
