Kolkata:  In a sensational development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made a stunning remark, claiming that 40 Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs were “in touch with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).” Expressing confidence in BJP’s victory, PM Modi said that on May 23, the day of the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls, “BJP will be everywhere.”

"On May 23, when everywhere will be BJP, your MLAs will dump you and leave. 40 of your MLAs are in constant contact with me. This is all because you breached their trust. It is difficult for you now Mamata Didi," PM Modi said. He made the statement while addressing a rally in Serampore in West Bengal.

Prime Minister Modi on Monday also launched a blistering attack against Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress for the incidents of violence during the fourth phase of polling for the Lok Sabha election 2019. Referring to the TMC cadres as “band of goons”, PM Modi stated that the state will vote out the “TMC goons.”

The Prime Minister said, "Goons of TMC are trying their hardest to stop people from voting and attacking BJP workers, they are not letting BJP leaders campaign."

PM Modi also hit out at West Bengal CM

Mamata Banerjee for stating that she would send “sweets filled with stones” so that it “breaks his teeth.” Modi said that he would “accept the stones for peace.” Banerjee had made the controversial remark after PM Modi had disclosed in an interview with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar that Banerjee sends him “sweets and kurtas” as gifts everywhere.

Violence was reported from the Asansol constituency in West Bengal on Monday as polling for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections were underway. TMC workers and Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and security personnel clashed outside polling booth number 125 -129 in Asansol, following a heated argument between the BJP and CPI (M) workers after TMC workers insisted on continuing with polling in the absence of central forces.

Meanwhile, in Krishnanagar, BJP candidate Kalyan Chaubey alleged that "TMC goons" had captured polling stations in the constituency. He also claimed that BJP polling agents were not being allowed at Kaliganj's booth number 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Monday accused BJP leader and Union Minister Babul Supriyo of "abusing and instigating voters" and alleged that he had entered the polling booth with his security staff.
