Speaking at a rally in Tonk in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said attacking Kashmiris only plays into hands of terrorists and what happened over the last few days should not have taken place at all.

"There is an atmosphere against terrorism in the world. You have also seen how Pakistan is being held accountable due to the actions of our government. This is a new atmosphere. We know how to destroy terrorism. We have given a free hand to the Army. Our fight is against terrorism, our fight is

against enemies of humanity. Our fight is not against Kashmiris. Our fight is for Kashmir. It is not against Kashmiris. What happened in the last few days (with Kashmiris) should not have happened," PM Modi said at Tonk.

In a tweet, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah thanked PM Modi saying the prime minister finally spoke what was in the hearts of Kashmiris.

"Thank you Narendra Modi sahib. Aaj aap ne hamaray dil ki baat keh di," Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Mr Modi. You are sitting at the top administrative post of the country. It is not suitable for the person of your status just to appeal the miscreants of the society not to attack Kashmiris. Your responsibility is to give them protection from the miscreants. Perform the Raj Dharma. 17 years ago Vajpayee guided you and now we are guiding you
