Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he is planning to exit all social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. 

In a tweet yesterday, Mr Modi informed the country about his plan to go offline on social media. Prime Minister, however, said he is thinking about it and he is yet to take a final call on the matter. Within minutes, 'No Sir' started trending on Twitter with people's reactions varying from shock to confusion. Within an hour, Mr Modi's post was retweeted over 26,000 times.

Prime Minister is one of the most-followed world leader on social media with 53.3 million



followers on Twitter and 44 million on Facebook. Mr Modi is the most followed world leader on Instagram with over 30 million followers. US President Donald Trump currently has 14.9 million followers while his predecessor Barack Obama has 24.8 million followers on Instagram. Mr Modi is the most followed Indian on Twitter. 

He joined Twitter in January 2009, one of the only few Indian politicians using this platform at the time. Mr Modi is only the third world leader to have crossed the 50 million followers mark on Twitter. The first two are Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
