Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the people to enrich the Lok Sabha elections with their active participation. 

In a series of tweets, Mr Modi called upon first-time voters to vote in record numbers, hoping that this election witnesses a historic turnout.  

The Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the Election Commission saying India is very proud of it for organising elections.

Mr Modi wished all political parties and candidates the best for the Lok Sabha elections adding that country's development and empowerment should be everyone's aim. 

Meanwhile, political parties have welcomed the declaration of elections for the 17th Lok Sabha. 

In a series of tweets, BJP President Amit Shah called upon the people to vote in record numbers and enhance the vibrancy of the



Indian electoral process. 

While welcoming the poll schedule, the Congress said the victory will be of the truth. It said the party is ready for the battle. 

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said, secular, democratic India is confident that the ECI will conduct free, fair and safe elections to ensure a smooth transition to the next government.

BSP chief Mayawati said, crores of labourers, poor, farmers, women, and youth participate in the polling and free, fair and peaceful polling is utmost necessary.

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said as the country celebrate its democracy let us vote for hope and unity. 

 AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister  Arvind Kejriwal said people are the real power of democracy.
