Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the people to enrich the Lok Sabha elections with their active participation.
In a series of tweets, Mr Modi called upon first-time voters to vote in record numbers, hoping that this election witnesses a historic turnout.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the Election Commission saying India is very proud of it for organising elections.
Mr Modi wished all political parties and candidates the best for the Lok Sabha elections adding that country's development and empowerment should be everyone's aim.
Meanwhile, political parties have welcomed the declaration of elections for the 17th Lok Sabha.

While welcoming the poll schedule, the Congress said the victory will be of the truth. It said the party is ready for the battle.
