Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval ratings increased from 62% to 68% between January 1 and April 14, as per data collated by an international polling agency Morning Consult. The increase corresponds to the period of Covid-19 outbreak in India.
During this time, the prime minister imposed a 21-day nationwide lockdown till April 14 and then extended it till May 3. Mr Modi’s popularity turned out to be better than world leaders such as UK PM Boris Johnson, US President Donald Trump, Canada PM Justin
Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Among other leaders who saw an uptick in popularity include Johnson, Australia’s Scott Morrison, Brazil’s Jair Bolsanaro, Trudeau, Merkel, Mexico’s Lopez Obrador and Trump during the period from January 1 till Arpil 14.
BJP president JP Nadda said PM Modi has been ranked top amongst world leaders in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. He said, Mr Modi leads the world in combating COVID-19.
