Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch infrastructure and housing projects worth around 41,000 crore rupees in Maharashtra today. During his day-long visit to the state, Mr Modi will lay the foundation stone for two important metro corridors at a public meeting in Kalyan. They are Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro and the Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander Metro in Thane district.
Mr Modi will also launch mass housing scheme worth 18,000 crore rupees which offers around 90,000 affordable homes for economically weaker sections under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). These houses will be built
by Navi Mumbai town planning authority City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
In another event in Pune, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the proposed third metro line between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. This project is being implemented by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on a public-private partnership basis after the new metro policy. Mr Modi will also visit Raj Bhavan in Mumbai to release a book titled “Timeless Laxman”, based on the famous cartoonist, RK Laxman.
