Clueless About JNU Student's Disappearance, Delhi Police Say He had Prescription for Depression
New Delhi: Delhi Police are still in the dark about the whereabouts of Najeeb Ahmed, the JNU student who went missing three weeks ago triggering mass protests in the national capital.
Police sources told CNN-News18 that they had formed special teams to find Najeeb, and are working around the clock. A police team has also visited Badayun, his hometown, and alerts have gone out to every police station in the country.
Police sources said Najeeb had a medical prescription for depression and ‘fear of unknown objects’ and that medicines were found in his room at the Mahi-Mandavi hostel in JNU.
The Left-leaning JNU Students Union had alleged that
Najeeb went missing after a scuffle with ABVP activists. Last week, the student protest at India Gate turned violent after police forcibly dispersed the crowd and detained hundred’s of students along with Najeeb’s mother and sister.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had met President Pranab Mukherjee in this regard, who, in turn, has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs for a report.
Delhi Police sources, however, maintain there are no suspects in the case yet and that they have questioned the ABVP activists who are accused of assaulting Najeeb. Police have also recorded the statement of the warden who saw him leave hostel.
According to sources, JNU student Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees was unaware about her son's disappearance.
