In Jammu & Kashmir, a Policeman was critically wounded in a militant attack on Police Post in Srinagar's uptown area yesterday.
Security sources said the militants attacked police post by opening fire towards the Chhanapora Police Post in summer capital's Chhanapora locality the late evening hours.
They said one policeman identified as Feroz Ahmad suffered critical injuries and was immediately taken to nearby hospital for treatment.
They said that militants after carrying
out the attack managed to escape from the area.
Meanwhile, Al Umar Mujahideen militant outfit claimed responsibility for the attack.
Al Umar Mujahideen was a very active militant group particularly in Srinagar during peak period of 90s. It was headed by high profile Mushtaq Zargar @ Mushtaq Latram, a resident of Jamia Masjid area in old Srinagar city. Later, he crossed over and is reportedly residing in Muzaffarabad or elsewhere in Pakistan.
