In Jammu & Kashmir, polling for the 4th phase of Panchayat Elections began at 8 this morning. It will conclude at 2 p.m. Over 5400 candidates are in the fray for 339 Sarpanch and 1749 Panch seats. Ninety-nine Sarpanchs and 969 Panchs have been elected unopposed in this Phase.
In the areas going to polls in Phase-IV, an electorate of over 4.72 Lakh will be voting for Sarpanch constituencies while over 3.32 Lakh will be voting for Panch constituencies. In the first three phases, above 70 per cent voting was recorded.
According to the
State Chief Electoral Officer, out of 2618 Polling stations across the State 571 polling stations in Kashmir division and 206 in Jammu division have been categorized as hypersensitive.
Adequate security arrangements have been made including the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the poll-bound areas. Control Rooms have been established in all districts across the State to respond promptly to any complaints of violation of the Model Code of Conduct as also to disseminate information to the public.
