Polling is underway for the eighth and last phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Voting is taking place for 28 DDC constituencies - 15 in Jammu Division and 13 in Kashmir Valley. Elaborate security arrangement has been made to ensure smooth and incident free polling. Due to the biting cold, poll process is slow but will pick up as the day progresses.
A total of 168 candidates are in the fray in Phase-VIII. Of these 122 candidates are male and 46 are female.
A total of 6,40,443 electorate are eligible to exercise their franchise for whom State Election Commission has set up 1,703 Polling booths.
The first seven phases of polling held so far has seen impressive turnout of voters exercising their franchise. The 7th Phase of Polling broke the record percentage of voting in all the six phases of DDC Elections.
