Polling begins peacefully for by-elections in 9 Assembly seats in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, polling started peacefully at the 9 assembly seats were by elections are being held today. The assembly seats where bye-elections will be held are Katehari, Karhal, Meerapur, Kundarki, Phulpur, Sisamau, Ghaziabad, Majhawan and Khair.

More than 34 lakh voters will decide the fate of 90 candidates in the by-elections. Maximum 14 candidates are from Ghaziabad seat, while at least five candidates are contesting from Khair and Sisamau assembly seats. A total of 3



thousand 718 polling stations and 1 thousand 917 polling booths are there in 9 assembly seats. paramilitary forces have been deployed to ensure fair and peaceful polling.

Out of these nine seats, four were held by the Samajwadi Party, three by the Bharatiya Janata Party, one each by BJP ally Nishad Party and the SP’s former ally Rashtriya Lok Dal that switched sides to the National Democratic Alliance before the Lok Sabha polls.
