Polling for sixth-phase of assembly election in UP begins; 8.69 percent voter turnout till 9 am

Polling is progressing smoothly for sixth phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. An average 8.69 percent voter turnout was recorded till 9 AM. Voting, which began at 7 AM, will continue till 6 PM. Voting is taking place for 57 assembly seats spread over 10 districts in this phase. 

These districts are Ballia, Balrampur, Siddharth Nagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, and Deoria. A total of 676 candidates including 66 women are in the fray in this phase.

The Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) is being used along with Electronic Voting Machine



(EVM) at every Polling Station.

In view of the prevailing Corona pandemic, Election Commission has laid focus on COVID-safe elections with maximum participation. The Commission has decided to allow maximum of 1,250 electors in a Polling Station instead of an earlier stipulation of 1,500 electors.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the festival of democracy in Uttar Pradesh has entered its sixth phase today. In a tweet, Mr. Modi has urged all the voters to participate in this festival and cast their votes. He said, your votes are the power of democracy.
