In Bihar, polling is underway in five Lok Sabha constituencies: Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Saran, Madhubani, and Sitamarhi under the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Long queues of voters, especially women, are being witnessed at different polling booths. More than 95 lakh voters in these five parliamentary constituencies will decide the electoral fate of 80 candidates.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in riverine areas and polling booths of the constituencies of Saran, Muzaffarpur, and Hajipur. In the Madhubani and Sitamarhi parliamentary constituencies, the border has been sealed along the Indo-Nepal border until the end of the polling.

The electoral fortunes of several scions of stalwart leaders from different political parties are at stake in this



phase.

Chirag Paswan, son of former Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan, from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, Dr Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, from Saran and former Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy from Saran are prominent candidates of this phase. Son of veteran BJP leader Hukum Dev Narayan Yadav, Ashok Kumar Yadav is contesting from Madhubani and son of Captain Jai Narayan Nishad, Ajay Nishad is contesting from Muzaffarpur parliamentary constituency.

Former union minister during UPA regime Ali Ashraf Fatami is also in the fray from Madhubani constituency as RJD candidate.

Presently all seats of this phase are held by NDA constituents JD(U), BJP and LJP. Three seats are held by BJP, and one each by JD(U) and LJP.
