The President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the Green Line of Metro Rail from Mantri Square Sampige Road Station to Yelachanahalli Metro Station in Bengaluru today. The President will also dedicate Phase - 1 of Namma Metro to the Nation at Banquet Hall, Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat. The opening of the Green Line from Mantri Square Sampige Road station to Yelachanahalli metro station the entire phase 1 network of 42.30 KM is open to the commuters of Namma Bengaluru. The total length of the East-West and North-South corridors is 42.30 KM, among this 33.48 KM is elevated section and 8.82 KM is underground section.
This
two corridors intersects at Kempegowda Station which is the interchange metro station. A commuter who intends to travel from a station in one line to a station in another line will have to change the train at Kempegowda station without coming out of paid area. The commuter can buy a single token for the complete journey. If Phase-1 activates Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation, expects the ridership to jump from the present 2 lakhs to 5 lakhs and the revenue from Rs.30 lakhs to Rs.1 crore per day. Karnataka Industrial Security Force will provide security to Metro stations and commuters. The new route will open to the public on Sunday.
