President Droupadi Murmu has expressed deep concern over the terrible series of heatwaves witnessed in many parts of the country during the summer and flagged that extreme weather events have become more frequent around the globe in recent years. She called upon the people to take proactive measures at their own level to complement efforts initiated by government and international organisations for the protection and conservation of the environment.
The President, who is on a four-day tour to her home state Odisha to attend the Rath Yatra and other events, shared her reflections on nature through social media platform X, as she walked along the beaches of Puri this morning. She urged people to make efforts to the best of their capability as individuals, at the local
level, for a secure future and asked them to do the same for the future generation.
Later, President Murmu inaugurated the Divine Retreat Centre of Brahma Kumari’s at Haridamada village near Bhubaneswar and launched the ‘Lifestyle for Sustainability’ campaign. She pleaded with the people to minimise the use of natural resources as their availability is limited.
During the day, the President also visited the Udayagiri caves in Bhubaneswar, which is famous for the Hathigumpha inscription carved out in Brahmi script. The inscription starts out with ‘Jain Namokar Mantra’ and highlights various military campaigns undertaken by Kharavela, a great monarch of Kalinga, the ancient name of Odisha.
