President Droupadi Murmu has said that today, India has a leading position in the world in terms of education, research, health care, and manufacturing of medicines in the Unani system. Inaugurating the two-day International Conference on Unani Day in New Delhi last evening, the President said, today the Unani system of medicine is not used as much in Yunan (Greece) and the countries of Central Asia as it is in India. She expressed happiness that researchers and practitioners associated with the Unani system are adopting useful aspects of modern methods and technology.

The President said the country has adopted a holistic approach towards health, and efforts are being made to empower various medical systems by giving them due respect. She said, according to the National Health Policy 2017, special emphasis is being laid on bringing AYUSH medical systems, including Unani, into the mainstream. She noted that under the guidance of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, studies and research are going on in many Unani medical educational institutions, and MD and PhD programs have also been started. She expressed confidence that the new



generations in Unani medical science will strengthen the ancient heritage of knowledge and experience.

Union Minister for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav said the government remains committed to advancing the development of Unani medicine and other Indian systems of medicine, ensuring that they contribute meaningfully to public welfare and the overall health of the global community.

Union Minister of State for PMO Dr Jitendra Singh said, a big change has come with the establishment of the AYUSH Ministry in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, be it Yoga, Ayurveda or Unani, the world has seen the effectiveness of it during the Covid pandemic.

Secretary in the Ministry of AYUSH, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said, Today the AYUSH industry is undergoing a big change. He said the AYUSH sector market, which was 2.85 billion dollars in 2014, has gone up to 23 billion dollars in 2024.

Every year, the 11th of February marks Unani Day, celebrating the birth anniversary of eminent Unani physician, educator, and freedom fighter Hakim Ajmal Khan.
