President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam held wide-ranging discussions with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi last evening. The talks focused on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Singapore.
President Murmu highlighted that Singapore is a key pillar of India’s Act East policy and its vision for the Indo-Pacific. She noted that with a shared history and a long-standing tradition of friendship based on trust and mutual respect, India-Singapore cooperation has gained further momentum in recent years. Both leaders agreed that as India steadily moves towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, the growing partnership between the two countries will bring immense benefits to their people.
During the meeting, President Murmu and President
Shanmugaratnam unveiled a joint logo to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. The logo incorporates colours from both nations’ flags and their national flowers, symbolizing enduring friendship, mutual trust, and shared values.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with President Shanmugaratnam, where they extensively reviewed the bilateral partnership and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. They also discussed futuristic sectors such as semiconductors, digitalization, skilling, and connectivity.
The President of Singapore is on a five-day visit to India, marking his first visit to the country in his capacity as the President. He will visit Odisha for two days starting today.
