New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind yesterday conferred one Kirti Chakra and 14 Shaurya Chakras during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-2) at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. The gallantry awards were given to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and Police for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty.
The President also conferred 13 Param Vishisht Seva Medals and 29 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for
distinguished service of an exceptional order. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries were present during the ceremony.
Kirti Chakra was awarded to the constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police Altaf Hussain Bhat Posthumously. Mr. Bhat exhibited gallantry of the highest order, utmost commitment to duty and made supreme sacrifice for the nation while killing a terrorist in Ganderbal.
