President Ramnath Kovind will today attend the closing ceremony of the three-day Namami Barak Festival in Silchar.Later, he will participate in another program in Guwahati. President Ram Nath Kovind is on a four-day visit to the northeastern region till 22nd November.
Security measures have been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident during the first ever visit of President Kovind to Barak Valley. The Assam government has also declared a holiday in three districts of Barak valley in view of the Namami Barak
festival and to ensure participation of common people in President's program.
Namami Barak Festival was inaugurated on Saturday by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the banks of the river Barak near the India-Bangladesh border in Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts simultaneously. In addition to attracting investment in the state, Namami Barak is an attempt to pay tribute to the river and to showcase Barak Valley’s potential and possibilities to emerge as a hub of trade and commerce.
