President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted people on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
In his message, Mr Kovind said, the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev convey to entire humanity the ideals of love, compassion, equality and harmony. He said, Guru Nanak Dev spread the light of knowledge and inspired all to become free from discrimination and rituals and in turn work for the well-being of all.
The President said, the message of 'Naam Japo, Kirat Karo and Wand Chhako' meaning Chant the name of the God, perform your duty with honesty and hard work, and share whatever you earn with the needy was a call to entire humanity. He said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji also emphasized the need to respect women. The President said, He was an ideal family man, who lived like a saint, thereby presenting the message of 'Karma' to the entire world. He called upon people to follow Guru Nanak Dev and build a society based on his teachings of equality and social amity.

Ji was a shining apostle of the sublime spiritual ethos of India and he truly democratized religion by making spiritual truths easily understandable for common man. He rejected rituals and superstitions and kindled devotion to the Supreme God. He said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught ethical and compassionate ways to lead a life of satisfaction and fulfilment. He was an icon of truth, compassion, and righteousness.
The Vice President said, his virtuous life and his divine teachings will keep inspiring people to follow the path of truth and have compassion for all humankind, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. He prayed that the light of wisdom and humanity lit by Guru Nanak Dev Ji will guide people to build a more harmonious, peaceful and compassionate world.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar in a tweet said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught people the path of truth, righteousness and compassion. He said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave the message to always put service paramount.
