Belgavi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 13th instalment of over 16000 crore rupees under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sammaan Yojana to benefit eight crore farmers across the country from Belagavi in Karnataka yesterday.

He also dedicated the modernised Belagavi railway station and railway doubling line. The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth over 2240 crore rupees in Belagavi yesterday. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the double engine Government in the Centre and in the State have ensured that the government programmes and policies are implemented quickly. He gave the example of the Jal Jeevan Mission that guarantees tap water supply to households. 

Mr. Modi said that the tap water supply coverage in rural Karnataka has increased from 25 per cent to 40 per cent. The Union Budget allocation for Agriculture has increased from 25000 crore rupees in 2014 to 1,25,000 crore rupees now. Emphasising that the Government is dedicated to the welfare of small farmers, the Prime Minister said that a number



of steps are being taken to cut down input costs by encouraging natural farming and cutting down the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Traditional farming techniques are being introduced to mitigate the adverse impact of climate change. Millet production is promoted. 

Sugarcane farmers are benefiting due to the increase in the use of ethanol. Special incentives are given for the construction of godowns. The Cooperative sector is given impetus. The Prime Minister said that Congress has the habit of insulting its leaders. He quoted the incidents of the party insulting its senior leaders from the State S Nijalingappa and Veerendra Patil in the past.

He also pointed out that Congress National President Mallkarjuna Kharge was insulted during the party plenary held recently in Chhattisgarh. He asserted that the Congress slogan of Modi Teri Kabra Khudegi will transform into Modi Tera Kamal Khilega due to the blessings of the people. Before addressing the public gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in a roadshow in Belagavi town.
