Priyanka Vadra on Monday attended her first meeting with top leaders of Uttar Pradesh campaign to finalise the strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Priyanka drove to the meeting at the Congress’ war room along with Ghulam Nabi Azad, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh. In attendance were UPCC chief Raj Babbar, chairman of the campaign committee Sanjay Sinh, chief ministerial face Sheila Dikshit, coordination panel chief Pramod Tiwari, eight vice presidents of the UPCC among other leaders. Interestingly, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was not present at the meeting convened by Azad.
“It is for the first time Priyanka has attended a strategy meeting of the organisation,” a senior leader said indicating her greater involvement in party affairs. The UPCC leaders updated the
meeting about three yatras, including the Kisan Yatra undertaken by Rahul across the poll-bound state. Priyanka was keen to know about the ‘Rahul Sandesh Yatra’ being undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh unit in every district of the state.
Congress sources said there was a concern about the lack of adequate response to the ‘Rahul Sandesh Yatra’ and it was decided to extend the yatra for another round after Diwali festivities. “The second round of the yatra will begin on November 2 and will continue till November 11,” a senior Congress leader said.
Asked about Priyanka’s plans to join the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, AICC spokesperson R P N Singh said “She has been campaigning in Amethi and Rae Bareli. She keeps track of the happenings in the organisation. We leave it to Priyanka to decide her role.”
