The long awaited elevation of Rahul Gandhi to the post of Congress president, announced on Monday, drew mixed reactions from leaders of other political parties — some felicitations and loaded comments as well.
“I congratulate Rahul Gandhi on being made Congress president, for getting a promotion without performance. When his party was in power, he used to frequently get out on a hit-wicket, and in the Opposition has been throwing ‘no-balls’. We hope that now he is Congress president, he will watch the pitch and play,” said Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Baijayant “Jay” Panda
took to twitter to congratulate his Lok Sabha colleague: “Congrats to Rahul Gandhi on becoming Congress president. We may disagree on politics and intra party democracy, but I genuinely wish you well. I hope finally holding the reins directly, you would try to make India’s opposition issue-based, opposing (and supporting) principles, not personalities.”
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejaswi Yadav also congratulated Mr. Gandhi on his elevation, saying he was “doubly sure that not only the Congress will flourish from strength to strength but will achieve greater heights under your dynamic leadership.”
