Puducherry Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy yesterday presented the budget for 2024-25 at the  Legislative Assembly. The 12,700-crore rupee budget was presented amidst a brief initial walk out by one independent and three BJP MLAs.

In the announcements, the Chief Minister said that the Fair Price Shops which remain closed due to the introduction of Direct Benefit Transfer a few years back will be reopened this year. Mr. Rangasamy said that subsidised essential commodities including free rice will be distributed to the public



through the outlets.  

The announcements  include a new scheme of 1000 rupees monthly assistance to Government school students joining colleges and  enhancement of 6500 rupees financial assistance  to fishermen for fishing ban period to 8000 rupees. Skill development scheme  for SC/ST women with a subsidy of 25,000 rupees was also announced.

It is to be noted that an interim budget was presented earlier in March this year.
