Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy on Friday announced a compensation of Rs. 25,000 each to the totally damaged houses due to the incessant rains in the Union Territory.
While addressing the media the Chief Minister said that in Puducherry and Karaikal about 1,000 hectares of paddy crops were damaged and a compensation of Rs. 20,000 per hectare will be given to the farmers.
Further the Chief Minister announced an assistance of Rs.5000 each to the registered construction workers and to the fishermen whose livelyhood was affected due to the recent rainfall.
A sum of Rs.10,000 will be
provided if a cow is perished and Rs.5000 for a goat he added.
Mr. Rangaswamy said Puducherry received an average rainfall of 184.1 cm during this year and out of 84 lakes in Puducherry 56 were filled with full capacity.
Mr. Rangaswamy said that steps would be taken to construct a check dam across Sankarabharani river at a cost of Rs.16 crore.
He concluded that Rs.86 crore had been allocated to repair the damaged roads after the rainfall and the Union government would be approached for relief after finallising the damages.
