In Punjab, Panchayat Elections will be held on 30th of this month. Chief Electoral Officer Jagpal  Singh Sandhu, announced the poll schedule in Chandigarh yesterday. He said the model code of conduct has come into force in the state with the immediate effect. 

Mr Sandhu said the nominations will be filed from Dec 15 to 19. The papers would be scrutinised on Dec 20 and the date for withdrawal, as well as the allotment of election symbols



to the candidates, is Dec 21. 

Voting will be on held on 30 Dec and counting will take place on the same day. The CEO said that a total of 86,340 personnel will be deputed on the election duty with 40 to 50 observers to ensure smooth and peaceful elections at 17,268 polling booths.

In all 13,276 sarpanchs and 83,831 panchs will be elected by about 1,27,80,000 registered voters.
