The Indian
Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) has called for a countrywide
strike against the PC&PNDT Act. The association says that the radiologists
are being victimised under the act for minor clerical errors. IRIA has decided
to suspend all ultrasound services from September 1, 2016.
Dr T L N Praveen, president IRIA Telangana chapter said that clerical errors such as in Form F/not wearing of apron/non display of notice board/not keeping hand book on PC & PNDT Act should not be equated with sex determination and treated as criminal offence. The IRIA said that the strike would continue till their demands are met.
sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">The demands include
that there should be standardised implementation of PC & PNDT Act
throughout the country, ultrasound machines should not be sealed and medical
qualification should not be cancelled on minor clerical errors, the Gazette
Notification dated 5thJune, 2012 regarding restriction to radiologists for
visiting more than two ultrasound centers in a district/intimation of change of
radiologist and equipment one month in advance should be de-notified or
suitably amended and renewal of PC &
PNDT Registration should not be denied until and unless the case is proved in the court of law.
