The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday got its new director as 1993-batch IRS officer Rahul Navin was appointed to the post. The appointments committee, part of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made the decision.
Navin, a 1993-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service, stepped into the position of special director of the central probe agency after the completion of the tenure of the previous director, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, on September 15, 2023.
Before his appointment as the
new director, Navin had been working closely with Sanjay Mishra, who mentored him, providing him with experience and insights into the position he was expected to assume.
This comes after the government promulgated an ordinance last year under which the tenure of the ED and CBI chiefs could be extended by up to three years after the mandated term of two years.
Over 100 political leaders in the country are being investigated by the ED currently, out of which almost 95 percent are from opposition parties.
