In Punjab, the three-day Rail Roko agitation launched by 19 farmer organizations from Thursday has badly affected the rail services at different rail routes. More than 90 trains routes have been affected in the state due to agitation. Nearly 50 trains have been cancelled till the next orders while 29 have been cancelled partially. Routes of 11 trains have been diverted.
The members of the farmer organizations in large numbers have sat on various railway tracks, causing disruption in
long-distance as well as local trains in the state. The trains had to be stopped at various places on their way.
Due to the sudden halt in rail traffic, there is a rush of passengers at various railway stations including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot, and Ludhiana.
The farmers are demanding minimum compensation of 50 thousand rupees to the flood-affected people and legal guarantees on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.
