Railway Board Chairman Suneet Sharma has said that despite COVID-19 challenges, Railway had achieved nine consecutive months of record freight loading from September last year to May this year. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Mr Sharma said, the highest ever loading of 1233 million tonnes was achieved in 2020-21.
The chairman said, 738 Kisan Rail services have been operated on 59 routes so far carrying around 2.33 lakh tonnes of agriculture products. He said, the major commodities
transported are onion, potato, Banana, capsicum, orange and other fruits and vegetables. The first Kisan Rail train was flagged-off on 7th August last year between Devlali, Maharashtra and Danapur in Bihar. He said, Railways had started running Kisan Rail train services, to transport perishables and agri-product.
Mr Sharma said, Railways has delivered more than 23,658 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen to fifteen states across the country. He said, 593 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far.
