Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav flagged off the Visakhapatnam-Koraput daily passenger train from Koraput railway station in Odisha. The regular run of the train will commence from today.
During his day-long visit to Koraput and Malkangiri- two of the aspirational districts in Odisha yesterday, the railway minister reviewed many railway projects including the Malkankari-Bhadrachalam rail line. More than 173 kilometres long this rail line has been sanctioned by the Railway Board in September last year with an estimated cost of 2800 crore
rupees.
The survey work for this rail connectivity project, for which there was a public demand, is targeted to be completed by June this year.
During his visit to the remote Malkangiri district of the state, Mr. Vaishnaw, who is also the minister of communications, electronics and information technology, inaugurated the new building of the headquarters post office at Malkangiri and a couple of post offices in three other districts of the state through the virtual mode.
