Union Railway Minister, Mr. Suresh Prabhu laid the foundation stone of one Megawatt solar power plant at Amritsar Railway station on Sunday. This power plant to be set up with a cost of Rs. 8 crore will produce 14 lakh unit power per year.
Speaking on this occasion Railway Minister said that this plant will save Rs.1.40 crore for railway. He said that Union Government is focusing to produce solar energy from waste materials that would reduce Railways expenditure so that passengers could be extended maximum facilities during travel.
He announced that in near future, Railway Ministry would install Solar Panels in all the
Railway Building across the nation. Minister said Railway had already successfully tested train to run at the speed of 180 kilometers per hour and work would initiate to start high speed train between Amritsar and New Delhi.
Railway Minister announced that work on the rail track to link Amritsar with Ferozepur via Patti will start soon. Mr. Prabhu praised people of Punjab for their contribution during the freedom struggle of the country and giving contribution to make the country self sufficient in food grains.
Speaking on this occasion Punjab Chief Minister thanked Railway Minister for giving new projects to state.
