New Delhi: Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sends him kurtas and sweets every year, Congress leader Raj Babbar on Friday asked how does the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief know the size of PM's kurta.

The Congress leader also questioned the TMC’s anti-BJP stance, saying PM Modi’s claim raises questions on the credibility of TMC’s fight against BJP.

"Two products from West Bengal are famous across the world. One is sweets made of cottage cheese and another is the 'kurta'. But till date, Mamata ji has not sent these two to us or anyone else. If she wants to gift them, she sends it to only one person. So you can understand that she knows the size of a kurta. Earlier, we used to raise questions if the size of his chest is 56 inches or not," Babbar said here in a press conference.

In a recent interview with actor Akshay Kumar, PM Narendra Modi said that he has many "good friends" in the Opposition including the TMC chief who gifts him kurtas chosen by her personally and sweets every year.

"Mamata didi saal me aaj

bhi mujhe ek-do kurte wo khud select karne jati hain (Even today Mamata didi herself selects one-two Kurtas for me in the year). She sends one-two Kurtas for me. Even Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sends sweets to me three-four times in a year especially from Dhaka. When Mamata didi got to know this, then she also started sending sweets for me one or two times in a year," the Prime Minister had said in the interview.

The West Bengal CM is a vocal critic of Prime Minister Modi and has at several ocassions openly attacked him over slew of initiatives taken by the BJP-led Centre including demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST).

On Friday, retorting to PM’s remarks, Mamata said she would make sweets from the soil and put pebbles in it similarly like cashew nuts and raisins give it to Prime Minister Modi so that it breaks his teeth.

"There is nothing wrong in sending kurtas and sweets as we send gifts to many important people during Durga Puja. He is trying to make a political issue by divulging this information,” she said while addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Asansol.
