The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 P.M. over US President Donald Trump’s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to mediate on Jammu and Kashmir issue. When the House met after first adjournment at 12 noon, members from Congress, Left, TMC, Samajwadi Party and others trooped into the well demanding Prime Minister’s statement in the House over the issue. Amid noisy scenes, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tried to run the Question Hour but could not succeed.
Later, he adjourned the House till 2 P.M. Earlier when the House met in the morning, External
Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a brief statement on US President’s claim. Some opposition members wanted to speak on the issue but Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu denied the permission. But, they repeatedly sought Chair’s attention to permit them to speak.
Responding to it, Mr Naidu said this is a national issue and the Upper House should speak in one voice. As noisy scene continued, Chairman adjourned the House till noon. The House congratulated ace sprinter Hima Das for her outstanding performance and clinching five gold medals.
