Rajya Sabha is likely to discuss the situation in Kashmir today. Following the opposition members' demand for discussion over the issue, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said yesterday that the government is ready for discussion over the issue.
The Minister said, he will convey the feelings of the members to Home Minister. Responding to this, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said, the government is ready for discussion on Kashmir issue today. Earlier yesterday, Sharad Yadav of JD(U) demanded a discussion on the issue in the House. Opposition members in the Rajya Sabha also urged the
government to call an all party meeting to discuss Kashmir issue.
Raising the issue in the Zero Hour, leader of opposition Ghulam nabi Azad expressed concern over curfew imposed in some parts of the valley. Sitaram Yechury of CPI(M) suggested that use of pellet guns should be withdrawn.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi yesterday and discussed the situation in Kashmir valley. She discussed the unrest in Kashmir in the wake of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces last month.
