Mumbai: Firebrand politician and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena founder-chief Raj Thackeray stoked a new controversy on Tuesday and claimed that the government is planning to stage Hindu-Muslim riots on the Ram Mandir issue for votes.

Speaking at a gathering in Maharashtra, Thackeray said he got a call from Delhi and someone in the know-how of the issue warned him about the riots. “Today morning I got a disturbing call from Delhi. There are talks going on between Owaisi and the government over the issue of Ram Mandir and they are thinking of ways to create riots in the country,” he

said.

Thackeray added that the current National Democratic Alliance government does not have anything to show in their performance and “are going to stoke Hindu Muslim riots for votes”. “They don’t have any option other than Hindu Muslim riots,” he claimed.

Cousin and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray had put Ayodhya in disarray last month after a sea of Sena supporters, or Sainiks, thronged the streets of the town demanding the Ram temple. He had said that all Hindus across the world are waiting for the Ram Mandir to be constructed in the historic city.
