Mumbai: On Saturday afternoon, senior BJP leader and former Governor of Jharkhand Ramesh Bais was sworn in as the 20th Governor of Maharashtra.
At a brief ceremony that took place in the Raj Bhavan, Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court S.V. Gangapurwala administered the oath of office to Bais.
Acting Chief Justice Gangapurwala and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde later
presented Bais with bouquets as a "special goodwill gesture" after he took the oath in Marathi.
In addition, the event was attended by Shinde, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker Rahul Narwekar, prominent dignitaries, top officials, and other select invitees.
After the former Governor of Jharkhand, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, resigned to pursue retirement, Bais, 75, was transferred to Maharashtra.
