Rana Kanwar Pal elected speaker of Punjab Assembly

Congress nominee Rana Kanwar Pal Singh was unanimously elected speaker of Punjab Assembly today. The name of Anandpur Sahib legislator was proposed by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

However, the Aam Admi Party and its ally Lok Insaf Party staged a walk out during the process of speaker's election, demanding a



debate on the Governor's address.

Meanwhile, former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and ex-deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal took oath today as MLAs in the chamber of the Speaker. They did not attend the House on earlier two business days of the Assembly during this session.
