With 38,902 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, biggest single-day spike ever, India's COVID-19 tally on Sunday reached 10,77,618, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to the Union Health Ministry, 543 fatalities were reported during the same period, taking India's death toll to 26,816.
As per the data available at the Health Ministry website, there are 3,73,379 active coronavirus cases in India while the recovery rate stands at 62.86. 6,77,423 people have been cured from coronavirus and discharged from hospitals, the Health Ministry noted.
Maharashtra, which is the worst affected state in India, on Sunday also crossed the grim
mark of 3 lakh coronavirus cases while death toll has increased to 11,596. Tamil Nadu and Delhi have reported 1.65 lakh and 1.25 lakh coronavirus cases respectively while Karnataka has reported nearly 60,000 COVID-19 cases.
The cases of the highly contagious coronavirus in India have been growing at an alarming rate. Looking at the surge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his last address to the nation had appealed people to practice social distancing and follow the guidelines issued by the government. The Prime Minister has also said that the India's grass-root system has helped the country ensure one of the best recovery rate in the world.
