Renowned scientist Professor Yash Pal passed away last night at his residence in Noida, in Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. He was 90. According to family sources, he will be cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium in New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
The globally renowned physicist and higher education reformer who began his career at Mumbai's Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, chaired the steering committee of National Curriculum Framework
of NCERT.
Yash Pal also headed a committee on higher education set up by Human Resources Development Ministry to reform higher education in the country.He served as Chairman of University Grants Commission, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology and also as the Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Pal was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1976 and Padma Vibhushan in 2013 for his contribution to Science.
