The repatriation procedure for the mortal remains of veteran cine actor Sridevi has been further delayed as Dubai Police has transferred the case to the local Public Prosecution.
The actor's body will only be released on the advice of the Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases.Indian Consulate is currently working closely with the local authorities to expedite.
The post-mortem report of Dubai Police has established accidental drowning, following the loss of consciousness as the cause of death of actress Sridevi.The report also suggests traces of alcohol in the blood which may have led to the loss of
consciousness.
As per the investigation procedures, statement of family members and the hotel staff has been recorded by the police. According to the UAE laws, any death which happens outside the hospital is investigated by the police even if the death has occurred due to natural causes.
The investigation procedure normally takes 2-4 days. Meanwhile, Indian Consulate is currently closely working with the local authorities to expedite the repatriation procedures to send the mortal remains of Sridevi back to the country at the earliest.
The 54-year-old actor died on Saturday late night in a Dubai hotel. She had stayed back in Dubai after a family wedding.
