The Maharashtra cabinet on Thursday approved an ex-gratia payment of Rs 200 per quintal rate for onions sold between November 1 to December 15.

Rs 150 crore compensation comes as a big relief to the onion producing farmers who had to sell their produce at low

prices.

The compensation will cover a total of 75 lakh metric tons of onions.

Lately, onion producing farmers have been registering protests in various parts of the state to press for their demands.
