External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India has a unique relationship with its diaspora and it has always promptly responded to the diaspora in distress. Mr Jaishankar said this while interacting with Indian diaspora across the globe through video- conference on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in New Delhi this evening. He said, the government has the goal to be the first and immediate responder for people in distress.
Mr Jaishankar said, Indian Missions have been equipped to assist
those more vulnerable and in need. He said, in extreme cases, India even mounted operations to respond to humanitarian situations and natural disasters that affect its people. In this context, the Minister also recalled operations in Yemen and Nepal.
Mr Jaishankar said, a number of initiatives have been taken by the government for migrant workers including the Pre-Departure Training Programme. He said, the Grievance Redressal Mechanism has also been strengthened.
