Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, who also looks after mining portfolio, himself, got down to the business to curb the illegal sand mining which is rampant in the State. 
The Minister, who is known for surprise inspections, on Monday created flutter among the sand mafia when he suddenly jumped off his car and took to police vehicle to reach Moya Tummedavagu (stream) sand reach near Kothapally under Timmapur mandal, close on the Hyderabad-Karimnagar road.
After inspecting the sand reach, KTR interacted with the labourers and elicited information about the mining.  On receiving information about the Minister’s  visit, the TSMDC Project Officer rushed to the spot and appraised the Minister about the mining



activities.
K T Rama Rao enquired from the project officer about the number of lorries that transport the sand and the facilities available at that place. He asked how much sand was being sold and at what price.  He also examined the illegal dumping sites in Kottapalli village, set up to keep the sand and directed the officials to seize them immediately and sell them.  
KTR said that the surprise inspections carried out in Karimnagar district would also be followed in other districts too. He told the reporters that sand mafia would be dealt with iron hand.
Later, KTR conducted a review meeting with the mayors, deputy mayors, commissioners of Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations.
