Sanjay Rai, the only arrested person in the R. G. Kar medical college and hospital rape and murder case, was sent to 14-day jail custody yesterday by the Sealdah court in Kolkata. He was produced yesterday at the court. Earlier, he was given 14 days of police custody after the arrest by the Kolkata Police. Later, he was handed over to the CBI.
In a related development, state Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam urged the resident doctors to join the work. Mr. Nigam said that the new Medical Superintendent-cum-Vice Principal and the Principal of the Medical College have joined their duties. He
also told me that the Head of Chest Medicine and the assistant superintendent have been transferred.
The probe into the financial irregularities and mismanagement in the R G Kar medical college case has been transferred from the SIT to the CBI. The Calcutta High Court today ordered that the CBI investigate the matter of financial irregularities involving the ex-principal of the medical college, Sandip Ghosh. Earlier, the state government had formed the SIT, which was headed by an IG-ranked IPS officer. There were four members of the SIT.
